October 20 to 26 is also Waste Reduction Week, and we’re challenging YOU to make a difference - Reduce your waste; Reuse what you can; Rethink your habits; and Reconnect with your community.

Circular Economy: You can support this initiative by borrowing, renting, and sharing items and participating in reuse programs, choosing reusables over single-use. Purchase products designed to be reused, refurbished, and dismantled, support companies that offer take-back of products after use. You don’t need to own the product for it to serve its purpose.
Environmental Benefits: Practice conscious consumption, water conservation, reducing waste, and putting garbage to good use in order to help protect our environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Socio-Economic: Did you know that there are many social and economic benefits and opportunities to finding new and more sustainable ways to manage waste?
- Construction: Recycling and reusing steel, drywall and other construction materials and significantly reduce environmental footprint.
- Textiles: Bring unwanted items to local thrift shops and reuse events and check out the Drop & Swap Event and give your clothes a new life!
- E-Waste: Purchase refurbished electronics, refurbish, repair or recycle electronics or bring them to the Aquatera Eco Centre!
- Plastics: Reduce your plastic footprint by using reusable bottles and containers. Recycle plastics #1-7 in your blue bag or bring them to the Aquatera Eco Centre; bring or donate refundable plastic bottles to the Aquatera Eco Centre, Landfill or Recycle Plus Bottle Depots!
- Food Waste: Meal plan and buy only what you need. Eat what you buy and get creative with leftovers and ensure to store food properly to avoid waste.
- Share, Reuse, Repair: Share apps, libraries, rental services, online music/video streaming etc.; Support organizations that offer options to rent, borrow and share; Reuse, repurpose, or repair items before discarding them, borrow and share items with others before purchasing new.
