Lower Sewer Rates Proposed for Hamlet of Clairmont
February 28, 2017
GRANDE PRAIRIE – Aquatera presented an alternative rate increase to the County of Grande Prairie on Monday, which will see a decrease from the proposed rates presented in January 2017.
Aquatera’s 2017/18 Business Plan originally included a sewer rate increase for the Clairmont system of 19.4% this year, and 6.6% next year. The large increase was to accommodate the Clairmont Lagoon Discharge (CDL) project that would connect the Lagoon to the Grande Prairie sewer system for treatment at the Aquatera Treatment Facility.
Aquatera developed an alternative rate increase that would now see Clairmont rates increasing by only 9.9% this year, with a larger rate increase in 2018 to spread this increase out over a longer period.
County Council reviewed this alternative on Monday morning, where they passed second reading of an amended rate change bylaw. The third and final reading is expected at the next council meeting.
Typical Clairmont residential customers will now see a $4.22/month increase in their sewer charges, rather than an $8.58/month increase based on the initial rates.
