Aquatera Waiving Landfill Fees for Residents on October 30
October 24, 2016
GRANDE PRAIRIE – Residents bringing household garbage to Aquatera’s Landfill on Sunday, October 30 will not be charged for the drop off.
From 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. all tipping fees for household waste will be waived. Vehicles must be at the entrance to the Landfill by 4:30 p.m. to ensure adequate time for Aquatera staff to process their drop off.
“Aquatera is fully supportive of curbing illegal dumping and littering in the community,” says Chelsea Lewis, Communications Manager. “We support a number of community initiatives to help keep our community litter-free, including the Rotary Green-a-thon, City Scrub and the Dunes Clean-up.
“Hosting a day once per year to wave tipping fee at our landfill is another opportunity to help residents safely dispose of their household waste.”
On Free Tipping Fee Day last year, 409 loads and 87.36 tonnes were brought to Aquatera’s Landfill.
Leanne Beaupre, Reeve for the County of Grande Prairie No. 1, agrees and is supportive of the initiative.
“Illegal dumping is a problem in our region, so in an attempt to reduce its occurrence, specifically in the Dunes Natural Area, County Council recommended that Aquatera provide a free tipping fee day at their landfill,” says Beaupre.
“Aquatera recognized the benefit in providing a free tipping fee day at their landfill. We hope that the public takes advantage of this free opportunity and takes their unwanted items to the landfill for them to be properly be disposed of or salvaged.”
Aquatera encourages residents to check out their website at aquatera.ca/landfill to determine what is acceptable to drop off and and what is not.
