No Collection Route changes for Grande Prairie over the holidays in 2011
MEDIA RELEASE – December 23, 2011
Grande Prairie, AB – Aquatera’s waste collection days will not change over the holiday season this year in Grande Prairie. Recycling and garbage trucks will pick up waste on regular collection days and Aquatera has a few reminders to help with excess waste in the next few weeks.
Recycling is a great way to eliminate overfull garbage carts. Typical holiday waste includes many recyclables. Paper wrapping material with bows removed, cardboard and boxboard boxes with plastic and metal removed, and hard plastics numbered one through seven are all accepted in the curbside blue bag program. Small pieces of cardboard and boxboard go in the blue bag while only large pieces of cardboard can be collapsed and placed under blue bags. There is no limit to the amount of blue bags allowed, but the rules of the program are strictly enforced to ensure all materials in blue bags are clean and recyclable. Recycling must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m.
Christmas tree recycling at curbside will begin Monday, January 23 and continue to Friday, February 3. Please reduce the size of the trees to four feet.
Styrofoam is accepted at Aquatera’s Eco Centre, and includes Styrofoam packing blocks and food containers. All Styrofoam must be clean of dirt and other materials including tape, plastic and metal.
Other items accepted at the Eco Centre and landfill includes old electronics, cardboard, and Christmas trees.
Garbage carts must have lids down all the way, with wheels to the curb, and be one metre away from any objects, including blue bags. If you have excess garbage, you can buy bag tags at Aquatera or most grocery stores, and can then place extra tagged garbage bags one metre from your garbage cart. Garbage should always be bagged, regardless of whether it is in the garbage cart or tagged in bags.
Additional garbage can also be taken to Aquatera’s landfill. Hours will be shortened on Monday, December 26 and Monday January 2 with the landfill operating from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. instead of the normal 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The landfill and Eco Centre are closed Christmas Day and New Years Day.
